Introduction

This blog will be open for anyone to post information on anything that has to do with the Springbrook-Waskasoo Life website. That includes historical information, upcoming events, news, experiences of living in the area either now or in the past, or anything that might be relevant. I will be adding comments frequently.

As time goes on, I will be adding more information to the site, especially of a historical nature, and will also be upgrading the appearance and organization of the site in time.

The most recent additions to the site include a page on the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, the Calgary and Edmonton Railway, the Alberta Central Railway and a map of the Calgary and Edmonton Trail.

I've lived near railway tracks all my life and this is the first place that I find the train horn so irritating. Why is it that the train horn is never consistent. Sometimes it's just a toot-toot-toot and other times, (like 2 am) it's to-o-o-o-o-o-ot-----too-o-ot----to-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ot. Almost like they start the horn in Penhold and lean on it all the way to the Walmart. I've always liked hearing train horns, but it's much easier to get used to when the sounds are consistent. Anyway, I have e-mailed the Dept. of Transport in Ottawa, asking what the logistics are and my main concern is this-is it entirely up to the individual tooting the horn how much he wants to disrupt the community or is there a protocol in place designating how the horn is sounded at different times of the day. It would be interesting to find out, is someone just ticked off because while we're sleeping restfully in our beds he has to work?! I'll be glad when they build those houses next to the tracks,...maybe they'll double up as sound absorbers. (ha ha)
